4 NFL teams who should make a late push to sign Clay Matthews

Green Bay Packers

There has been an effort by the Green Bay Packers to improve their linebacking corps in recent years. As a result, they are not facing a pressing need to add another into the mix, but if they get creative, they would benefit from a possible Clay Matthews reunion.

The Packers lost Kyler Fackrell in free agency and as a result, could use another pass rusher on the edge to add to their rotation. That’s an area where Matthews would be able to step in and provide a boost in a rotational capacity for Green Bay.

Bringing in Matthews would enable the Packers to continue to move Za’Darius Smith around their defensive front, too. There would be more potential layers to turn to in order to give opposing teams different looks and make for a more difficult overall unit to defeat.

There wouldn’t be a need for Matthews to fill a role that resembles what he once provided the Packers earlier in his career. Instead, he could be a situational player that can make an impact throughout games in a more focused capacity.
