4 positions the Cowboys must focus on in the NFL Draft

EDGE Rusher

There is a continued need to add more impact at EDGE for the Cowboys after losing players like Robert Quinn, Michael Bennett, and Maliek Collins. It’s crucial they manage to add more talent at this spot because they’re going to need impact opposite of Demarcus Lawrence.

The Cowboys went with an unexpected approach to free agency when adding pass rush to the defensive line. They ended up signing Aldon Smith and while there are plenty of reasons to believe that could end up paying off in a major way, there are some justifiable concerns.

It’s going to remain unclear how impactful Smith will be until he is able to show it. Let’s not forget, his lone Pro Bowl and All-Pro season was in 2012 with the San Francisco 49ers, which is now eight years ago. Again, he could answer those questions quickly, but they’re still worth asking right now.

It would be beneficial for the Cowboys to at least have a defensive end prospect that can develop. Having a cheap option at this position that could potentially be ready to shoulder a greater role in 2021 would provide some assurance for Dallas if Smith were to not pan out.
