4 positions the Cowboys must focus on in the NFL Draft

Wide Receiver

With Amari Cooper signing a contract extension to remain with the Cowboys, the need for drafting a wide receiver diminished to an extent. There is still a need to add more talent to their supporting cast at this position with Randall Cobb departing for the Houston Texans.

If the Cowboys were to try to add a particular type of receiver, they would benefit from targeting one that plays in the slot. While Cooper can play both inside and out, he’s ideal primarily on the outside. Having an explosive option in the slot to play off him would be ideal.

A benefit of the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft is that it’s considered as having one of the deepest class of receivers in a long time. The Cowboys don’t have to feel compelled to reach for a player at this position and can add a legitimate talent by remaining patient.

Another factor is that Michael Gallup’s contract expires after the 2021 season and he’s emerged as an exceptional complementary receiver. The Cowboys already could use another receiver talent and adding in that Gallup could end up being costly to retain, it’s something to consider.
