4 positions the Cowboys must focus on in the NFL Draft

Safety

The Cowboys were close to acquiring New York Jets safety Jamal Adams ahead of the trade deadline last season but that deal ended up falling through. A move of that nature would have more than solidified the safety position and turned into a real strength.

While the Cowboys did end up signing Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in free agency, it’s not a real long-term solution. He still has to prove himself as a legitimate starting quality contributor and with him being on a one-year deal, he may not end up being in Dallas for long.

There isn’t much for options at the safety spot remaining in free agency. For reference, Clayton Geathers is considered one of the top available options. While he’s been linked to the Cowboys in the past, he’s underwhelming in coverage and doesn’t have any great parts to his skill-set.

Dallas would be wise to add a safety prospect in the NFL Draft because if Clinton-Dix doesn’t pan out or departs next offseason, they’d be left in a tough position. At least having a cheap potential replacement that has a year of NFL experience and familiarity with the defensive system would help.
