4. T.J. Wins the Watt Family Reunion
The Watt brothers—J.J., T.J., and Derek—played together growing up in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. On Sunday, all three of them were on the same NFL field for the first time.
T.J., the All-Pro linebacker for the Steelers, is the youngest of the three but dominated the game. He hit Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson four times, finishing with four tackles (two for loss) and a sack, his third of the season. Older brother J.J., meanwhile, recorded four tackles but no quarterback hits.
Early in the fourth quarter, with the Texans nursing a one-point lead and inside Steelers territory, T.J. perfectly read a short pass to Brandin Cooks and tackled the receiver for a five-yard loss. Two plays later, he chased down Watson and got in a big hit near the sideline, forcing Watson to throw an interception to Mike Hilton.
Sunday was only the second time in the last 90 years three brothers all played in the same game. Tremaine, Terrell, and Trey Edmunds played in a Bills-Steelers game last season. Even while he was overpowering the Texans offensive line, T.J. admitted he couldn’t help taking a peek at his big brother.
“It wasn’t a normal week. I just tried to, especially toward the end of the game, take a moment to be able to see the guy I looked up to my whole life playing football, my brother J.J., just to see him go to work,” he said, according to Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “It’s something I’ll never forget.”
