4 teams who should be targeting BYU QB Zach Wilson in the 2021 NFL Draft

Coming into the 2020 college football season no one was really talking about BYU quarterback Zach Wilson as an NFL Draft prospect.

Wilson, however, has had a big season for the Cougars and through nine games he has thrown for 2,724 yards, 26 touchdowns, and two interceptions. Wilson isn’t a true running quarterback, but he will be a threat with his legs at the next level.

Wilson doesn’t have the strongest arm, but his arm is plenty good enough to be a good quarterback at the NFL level.

There are quarterbacks like Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence who will be drafted higher, but with his draft stock rising he could be the third quarterback drafted. Many believe he is in the same category as Trey Lance, Mac Jones, and Kyle Pitts.

There are plenty of teams who are still looking for a franchise quarterback. A role that Wilson can fill. Let’s take a look at four teams who should be targeting Wilson.

Washington Football Team

Alex Smith has been a really nice story for the Washington Football Team, but he isn’t the long-term future of this team. It seems the team has also decided to move on from Dwayne Haskins, so they are looking for their next quarterback.

Washington has a solid defense and the offense is only a few key pieces away from really competing again. Antonio Gibson looks to be their running back of the future who has really improved the run game.

Zach Wilson could sit behind a guy like Smith for another year, or Washington could decide to start him right away next season.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears are another team that has a good defense and some nice pieces on offense, but they are missing one key part, which is that they need a quarterback.

Mitchell Trubisky clearly isn’t the quarterback of the future. The team traded for Nick Foles this offseason, but he won’t be leading the squad to a Super Bowl either.

The Bears struck out with their first round pick and if they had to trade up, the team might not want to do that. But, if Wilson is available when the Bears are on the clock in the 2021 NFL Draft, they need to draft their quarterback of the future.

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos might not be willing to give up on Drew Lock yet, but with the way he has played during 2020 it’s hard to imagine that he is going to lead the team to the promised land.

Lock and Wilson are similar, but in terms of talent, Wilson has more and would be an upgrade at the team for the position.

Going against the Chiefs twice a year means the offense is going to need to win some shootouts, which means an upgrade at quarterback could be needed.

Minnesota Vikings

Just a few weeks into the season it looked like the Vikings might have a top five NFL Draft pick, but they have hurt that by winning games.

By winning these games, there might be limitations about what quarterbacks will be available in the first round.

The Vikings might decide Kirk Cousins is still their future, but a lot of that might depend on who is available for them in the first round. If Zach Wilson is available, the Vikings need to run to the podium and select their quarterback of the future.
