Clinton-Dix may not have had as stellar as a season as Jimme Ward did in 2019, but he still had a very productive year in Chicago. He graded out as the 19th-best strong safety in the NFL according to Pro Football Focus, recording two interceptions and 79 total tackles last season.
He’ll also likely be a cheaper option than Ward, given the fact that Ward is coming off a career year for San Fran.
Last season, Ward posted career highs in nearly every major defensive category by a wide margin. This may have been the best season we’ll see out Ward.
With all the being said, Clinton-Dix feels like much more of a “sure thing” at safety in regards to production and availability.
If Ward ends up leaving the bay area this offseason, look for San Fran to pursue Clinton-Dix as his replacement.
