Improve Red-Zone Offense

When evaluating some of the top overall offensive teams in the NFL in 2019, the San Francisco 49ers are higher up on the list than most. However, they did display a need to improve their ability to take the ball across the goal-line more often when they reach the red-zone.

When factoring in field goals, the 49ers were one of the most frequent scoring teams on a per drive basis. For reference, they scored on 44.3% of their drives and that trailed only the Baltimore Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and Dallas Cowboys. There’s room for improvement though.

When factoring in strictly scoring touchdowns from inside the red-one, the 49ers scored just 53.2% of the time. They scored a touchdown on 33 of their 62 trips to the red-zone and their efficiency ranked 22nd in the NFL. There’s clear potential for growth in this area.

What made them so successful was that only the Baltimore Ravens made it to this part of the field more. The 49ers moved the ball upfield well and if they managed to improve their efficiency would translate to impressive overall results.
