The San Francisco 49ers suffered a major blow during Super Bowl 58 against the Kansas City Chiefs. Not only did they lose the game 25-22 in overtime, but linebacker Dre Greenlaw suffered a devastating injury in the second quarter of the game.

While getting ready to return to the field after a punt, Greenlaw headed off the sidelines but immediately went to the ground. He was in visible pain and it turned out that he injured his Achilles, knocking him out for the remainder of the game and putting his status for 2024 in jeopardy.

With Greenlaw potentially sidelined for the season, the 49ers have gotten to work on adding established veterans to the mix. The first addition they made in the 2024 NFL Free Agency was pass rusher, Leonard Floyd.

Floyd comes to the 49ers after spending one season with the Buffalo Bills. He isn’t the only veteran that the team has added to the second level of their defense, as San Francisco has also worked out a deal with linebacker Eric Kendricks.

NFL News & Rumors: Eric Kendricks, 2024 NFL Free Agency, Los Angeles Chargers, San Francisco 49ers Updates

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 49ers and Kendricks have worked out a one-year deal. This is the second straight offseason that he has been a cap casualty, as the Minnesota Vikings released him in 2022, leading to him signing with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Kendricks and the Chargers agreed to a two-year, $13.25 million deal during free agency in 2023. But, given their salary cap situation, he was a cap casualty this offseason, leading to his landing with the 49ers. He remains a productive player, as he was very good for Los Angeles last season. Kendricks recorded 117 tackles with 3.5 sacks.

There is a chance that Kendricks will play a major role for San Francisco during the 2024 season. He will likely be the starting linebacker alongside All-Pro Fred Warner as long as Greenlaw is sidelined.
