The San Francisco 49ers certainly earned their berth in Super Bowl 58, where they will be facing off against the Kansas City Chiefs. After bludgeoning most of their opponents in the regular season, the 49ers faced two stiff tests in the postseason.
Against the Green Bay Packers in the Divisional Round, San Francisco had a back-and-forth affair. Eventually, their experience seemed to win out as they executed in crunch time better than a young Packers squad, winning 24-21.
In the NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions, the 49ers once again had an experience edge. But, the lights didn’t seem too bright for Detroit, who scored the first 14 points of the game and led by 17 at halftime.
At that point, a switch flipped for San Francisco. All of the 50/50 plays were going their way and they were catching break after break. Detroit had some untimely miscues, such as drops on fourth down and turnovers, giving momentum back to the 49ers who seized the moment.
