The San Francisco 49ers are off to a very strong start at 3-0. It is only the second time since 1999 that they have been undefeated this long and they would like to keep that streak going. 2019 was the last time they started 3-0 and that season they ran off eight straight before their first defeat.

If they want to approach that number this season, the 49ers have to get past their NFC West rivals, the Arizona Cardinals, in Week 4. The Cardinals are coming off a huge upset victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, but could be short-handed this weekend on the offensive side of the ball.

Worry is starting to build that San Francisco could be without their star wide receiver, Deebo Samuel. Samuel is an injury to watch for as he missed practice on Thursday for the second straight day.

Fields Yates of ESPN shared the update, piggybacking off of what fellow ESPN reporter Nick Wagoner shared from Wednesday. According to Wagoner, Samuel was one of two players, along with wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who was not seen participating in the early portion of practice. But, Jenning was seen doing some work on the side, while Samuel wasn’t anywhere to be seen.

This is certainly something to keep an eye on as Samuel is an integral part of the team’s plans offensively. Could this just be some rest days for veterans since no ailment was shared? It is certainly concerning as the 49ers are coming off of a mini-bye, playing on Thursday Night Football against the New York Giants in Week 3.

The one encouraging update that was shared is Brandon Aiyuk was back at practice and didn’t seem limited. If Samuel is forced to miss time, at least Brock Purdy will have his other top wideout available to him against the Cardinals.

Samuel has been playing at a high level thus far in 2023. Through three games he has caught 17 passes for 247 yards and one touchdown. He has added eight rushes for 48 yards and another score as a do-it-all weapon for Kyle Shanahan to move around the 49ers’ formations.
