49ers: What to expect from Richard Sherman in 2020

What Should The 49ers Expect From Richard Sherman In 2020?

Quite simply, the 49ers should be expecting much of the same from Sherman this season. Every player in their 30’s seems to have critics who think they are showing age. Just ask Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who has seen his name dragged through the mud over the last two offseason.

Sherman is still a more than capable No. 1 corner and proved that last season. Coming through with three interceptions and 11 defended passes isn’t a sign of someone who is slowing down and possibly becoming unreliable.

Will Sherman ever be able to keep up with the fastest wideouts in the NFL again? Probably not. Then again, there are very few cornerbacks who can keep up with the likes of Tyreek Hill and receivers of that nature.

Predicting Sherman’s numbers for the 2020 season is not an easy task, but we’ll try our best. It would be reasonable to expect 55 tackles, three interceptions, and 14 defended passes. Sherman should be just as effective as he was in 2019.

San Francisco will need another cornerback to step up opposite of Sherman. The 49ers currently are expected to start Ahkello Witherspoon as their No. 2 cornerback. However, they are hoping that Jason Verrett can get back to full health.

Either way, the 49ers did not do enough to solidify their secondary this offseason. They could very well have more issues with opponents throwing the ball effectively against them.

Sherman will do his part, but he can’t do it all by himself.
