The Green Bay Packers are starting a new era in the 2023 season. Aaron Rodgers, who has been the starting quarterback since 2008, will not be suiting up for the team this season. Instead, it will be Jordan Love taking over the starting job in Green Bay.

Love was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft after the Packers made a trade up the board with the Miami Dolphins. The team is confident that Love is ready to take over the reins for the offense, but quarterback remains a big need for the team.

There isn’t another quarterback currently on the roster other than Rodgers, who will eventually be traded. Adding a veteran to the mix would make a lot of sense behind Love given his lack of experience. But, looking to save every penny that they can, Green Bay could be better off drafting Love’s backup.

The 2023 draft class has some intriguing options for the Packers to consider. A quarterback won’t be heading to Green Bay on Day 1, but after that, all bets are off. One player to keep an eye on should he slip in the draft is Hendon Hooker.

If Hooker slips into Day 2, the Packers could see him as a viable target. Alas, there are rumors that he will be selected at the end of Round 1 so that teams can have a fifth-year option on his rookie deal. An older prospect coming off a torn ACL, Hooker’s projections are wide-ranging.

Next on the list is Dorian Thompson-Robinson. A projected Day 3 pick, Thompson-Robinson is a highly regarded dual-threat quarterback. Inconsistency was an issue for him at UCLA, but there is talent there to develop into a useful weapon at the next level.

Another late-round option is Stetson Bennett. The Georgia product had a wild college career that culminated in back-to-back College Football Championships. His size and age will be considered a detriment by many but he is a good leader and has a very high football IQ.

One more older prospect that could catch the Packers’ eyes is Jaren Hall out of BYU. He has the skill set to fit into Matt LaFleur’s offensive system, but he does struggle with the deep balls. Like many late-round prospects, more consistent performance would have improved his draft stock.

Last but not least, we have Tanner McKee. The Stanford product has a chance to be the first quarterback off the board after the top five, which means he could be on the radar as an early Day 2 selection. Deadly accurate when protected in the pocket, McKee has the look of a high-end backup in the NFL.
