Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers have been hot and heavy in the NFL news feed and rumor mill over the last 48 hours. Reports have been breaking left and right about how unhappy the reigning MVP is with his current situation. It seems very likely that the two sides could be heading for a split at some point in the near future.

Fans in Green Bay have been angry and sad about the situation. The team has been to back-to-back NFC Championship Games, but have come up short in both of them. With the Super Bowl so close, this situation is absolutely heart-wrenching for everyone involved.

Another new update, this time from ESPN’s Adam Schefter via Lily Zhao of FOX6 in Green Bay, continues spelling doom for the two sides working things out.

.@AdamSchefter now on Aaron Rodgers: “There are many people connected to him that believe he’s played his last down in Green Bay.” #Packers

One of the biggest factors for Rodgers, according to reports, is his desire to see general manager Brian Gutekunst fired. He is obviously still very upset that Gutekunst traded up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select his future replacement, quarterback Jordan Love.

Since the reports started breaking about Rodgers wanting out of Green Bay, the Packers have remained steadfast in their conviction to keep their superstar quarterback. They have verbally committed to him for the foreseeable future. The Packers also traded up in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft to select Clemson wideout Amari Rodgers, who would be a nice weapon for Aaron Rodgers.

With the new report from Schefter, it seems that Rodgers has been talking openly about never wanting to play for the Packers again. This is a strange situation, especially with the experience that Rodgers had after being drafted while Brett Favre was still the face of the Packers. It seems a bit immature, although the Packers have not handled this situation perfectly either.

It will be interesting to see what ends up happening with the Packers and Rodgers moving forward. A trade could still happen, but Green Bay seems willing to call Rodgers’ bluff. Keeping him on the roster and forcing him to either play, retire, or breach his contract would be a wise decision.

Expect to continue hearing more news and rumors come out surrounding the Packers and Aaron Rodgers. This situation is only going to get uglier unless a drastic change occurs on both sides. It’s definitely sad to see.
