The Indianapolis Colts may have a rising star on their hands, as quarterback Anthony Richardson was able to set a unique team record.
When people think about the Indianapolis Colts in recent years, many think about the great quarterbacks that they have been lucky to have in Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck. The transition from Manning to Luck in Indianapolis was a pretty easy one, as the team didn’t have to endure much losing.
However, the transition from Luck to the next great Colts quarterback has already taken some time since Luck shockingly stepped away from the game. Without a backup plan in place for the shocking move by Luck, the Colts have had some struggles at the quarterback position.
In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Colts decided that the time was right to try and find themselves their next great quarterback, as they took Anthony Richardson with the 4th overall pick from Florida. While Richardson is very talented, he is a much different quarterback compared to Manning and Luck. For Richardson, his ability to run the football makes him a threat, and he recently accomplished a unique feat.
For the first time since Edgerrin James in 1999, Richardson was able to record two rushing touchdowns for the Colts in the win against the Houston Texans.
While the Colts know that Richardon’s ability to run makes him special, they have to help the young quarterback be a bit more careful when it comes to taking hits. Coming into Week 2, Richardson was dealing with a bone bruise that landed him on the injury report. Furthermore, in Week 2, Richardson was forced from the game due to a concussion and is now in concussion protocol.
In Week 3, the Colts will have a tough task on their hands, as they will be facing the Baltimore Ravens. With Richardson’s status in question, we might see Gardner Minshew under center. Hopefully, Richardson can get out of concussion protocol quickly, as he is proving to be an exciting young quarterback.
