In spite of rumors that have suggested otherwise, the Arizona Cardinals seem fully committed to quarterback Kyler Murray as he recovers from his torn ACL, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Murray suffered the ACL tear during the back half of last season in what was a very disappointing campaign for the Cardinals. Murray went just 3-8 in his 11 starts and had apparently ticked off Arizona’s organization with his attitude, which had many surmising that the Cardinals would be on the hunt for another quarterback this offseason.
However, that apparently is not the case.
Russini says that Arizona wants Murray back on the field and has impressed members of the front office during his recovery from his knee injury.
Russini added that the 26-year-old no longer has any physical restrictions and that he could actually be returning to the club over the next three or four weeks.
If and when Murray returns, the Cardinals will evaluate him and then make their determination about the status of their quarterback position.
Murray, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was selected by Arizona with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed an impressive rookie campaign, throwing for 3,722 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 64.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.4.
Kyler Murray then went on to win back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2020 and 2021 and led the Cardinals to the playoffs in the latter year.
Arizona is 1-6 so far in 2023 and will take on the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday.
