Kirk Cousins officially joined the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday after agreeing to sign a massive four-year, $180 million deal with the club earlier in the week.

During his first media session as a member of the Falcons, Cousins provided an update on his recovery from a torn Achilles, which he suffered in Week 8 with the Minnesota Vikings this past season.

“I can take drops.” Cousins said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I can play the quarterback position, if you will, throwing the football.”

Cousins added that he hopes to be at “full speed” before the end of offseason workouts.

The 35-year-old would not give a percentage on how well he currently feels and said that he would have limitations leaving the pocket at the moment.

Prior to going down with the injury, Cousins was rolling, as he had thrown for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 69.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 103.8.

Not only was the veteran well on his way to earning his fifth trip to the Pro Bowl, but he was also likely to receive some MVP consideration.

Cousins, who played his collegiate football at Michigan State, was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

He spent the first six years of his career with the Redskins, making one Pro Bowl appearance before signing with the Vikings in March 2018.

The Barrington, Il. native went on to spend the next six seasons in Minnesota, earning three Pro Bowl selections. However, he never advanced past the Divisional Round of the playoffs.

Kirk Cousins is hoping for more playoff success in Atlanta, and the Falcons are hoping that they have finally found some stability under center for the first time since Matt Ryan.
