Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in football, but he is still missing one very important thing: a Super Bowl ring.
This year may be Jackson’s best opportunity to win a championship yet.
The Ravens went 13-4 this season, finishing with the best record in the NFL and earning a first-round bye as a result. Baltimore looked thoroughly dominant down the stretch, with Jackson almost surely putting a bow on the MVP race in the process.
This week, Jackson spoke about the urgency for he and his club to win a Super Bowl now.
“I remember coming into the building with all of those guys. Now, it’s just like me, Gus [Edwards] and Mark [Andrews]. We had so many guys. It was incredible, man,” Jackson said, via Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. “They’re all around the league right now and we’re not in the same locker room anymore. It’s crazy. It made me sit back and realize, ‘Damn, I’m getting older. I’ve got to get a championship now.’ That’s one of the reasons I’m stressing that I need to win it. I’m not getting any younger. It’s best to win it now.”
Not only is Jackson yet to win a Super Bowl, but he not experienced much playoff success in general.
The 26-year-old has gone just 1-3 in four playoff games, throwing for 900 yards, three touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 55.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 68.3.
Four years ago, Lamar Jackson and Co. found themselves in a very similar situation to now. In 2019, Baltimore went 14-2, which was good for the best record in the league. It notched a first-round bye, only to get upset by the Tennessee Titans in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
The Ravens will aim to avoid the same fate this Saturday when they host the Houston Texans.
