The Baltimore Ravens tried to acquire running back Derrick Henry from the Tennessee Titans at the trade deadline back in October, but were unable to close the deal.

In a few weeks, the Ravens will be able to sign Henry outright, and the odds currently list them as the favorites to land him at +175, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Baltimore is certainly in need of a halfback to take some pressure off of Lamar Jackson, and while Henry may not be the same elite rusher he was a few years back, he certainly fits the bill.

Henry is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played every game and registered 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards per carry en route to his fourth Pro Bowl appearance.

The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Titans in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

After a couple of uneventful seasons to begin his career, Henry began to break through in 2018, recording 1,059 yards and 12 scores while logging a robust 4.9 yards per attempt.

Then, in 2019 and 2020, Henry broke out, leading the NFL in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in back-to-back years. He topped out at 2,027 yards and 17 scores in the latter campaign, averaging 5.4 yards per tote. He also posted 126.7 yards per game.

Since then, Henry’s efficiency has tailed off, as he tallied 4.3, 4.4 and 4.2 yards per carry over his last three seasons. However, he remains an effective bell cow and has paced the league in rushing attempts in four of the last five years.

The Ravens may be able to get Derrick Henry on a relatively affordable contract in free agency, and considering that the star running back wants to join a contender, a marriage between the two sides may ultimately be inevitable.
