The Baltimore Ravens tried to land Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry at the NFL trade deadline, but they were unable to strike a deal for him. However, they may just end up signing him in free agency this coming offseason.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay predicts that the Ravens will ultimately bring Henry aboard in the spring to bolster their rushing attack.
Kay notes that Henry will likely look to ink a contract with a contending team, and Baltimore certainly fits that bill. Additionally, Kay notes that Henry may look for a situation where he no longer has to be the bell cow in order to preserve him long term. Given that the Ravens will be getting J.K. Dobbins back from injury next season, they can certainly provide that for him, as well.
Henry has rushed for 841 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 4.3 yards per carry this season. He has also logged 22 catches for 185 yards.
The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Titans in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Henry was a bit of a late bloomer, as he didn’t really break out until his third season when he totaled 1,059 yards and 12 scores while registering 4.9 yards per tote. He then proceeded to lead the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in each of the next two seasons, topping out at 2,027 yards and 17 scores during the 2020 campaign. He also recorded 5.4 yards per tote that year.
The Yulee, Fl. native has made three Pro Bowl appearances while also earning a First-Team All-Pro selection throughout his NFL career.
Derrick Henry may not be the same halfback from several years ago, but he remains a dynamic threat and will certainly be one of the premier offensive players on the free-agent market come springtime.
The Ravens are 9-3 and will take on the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday.
