The Baltimore Ravens are in need of some help in their backfield, so they may be players for a running back in free agency next month.

Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network sees a potential target for the Ravens: Las Vegas Raiders star Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs is slated to become a free agent in the coming weeks, and it’s looking like the Raiders may let him walk. Jacobs has expressed interest in returning to Las Vegas, but whether the Raiders want to spend big money on a halfback with mileage remains to be seen.

The Ravens, on the other hand, could certainly stand to add a player of Jacobs’ caliber to take some pressure off of Lamar Jackson in the rushing attack.

Jacobs is coming off of a rough 2023 campaign in which he missed four games due to injury. During the time he was on the field, he struggled, rushing for 805 yards and six touchdowns while averaging a meager 3.5 yards per carry. He also logged 37 catches for 296 yards.

However, the 26-year-old is just two seasons removed from leading the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards. In addition, he added 12 touchdowns on the ground and posted a robust 4.9 yards per attempt. On top of that, Jacobs caught 53 passes for 400 yards.

Of course, Jacobs’ career has largely been defined by inconsistency. For example, the year before leading the league in rushing, Jacobs totaled just 872 yards and nine scores while registering a pedestrian four yards per tote. He also lays claim to a very mediocre average of 4.2 yards per carry for his career.

That being said, Jacobs still provides more than any other members of Baltimore’s backfield, and you could imagine him flourishing in an offense that also includes Jackson. Talk about a rather lethal two-pronged rushing attack.

The problem for the Ravens is that they are actually slightly over the cap entering the offseason, so they may have to get creative in order to sign a player of Jacobs’ caliber.

Baltimore also has some of its own free agents to worry about, so it may end up choosing not to spend big on a halfback in free agency.

We’ll see what the Ravens decide to do.
