It was not too long ago that the Philadelphia Eagles looked like the team to beat not only in the NFC but the NFL as a whole for a Super Bowl. They looked like a juggernaut, steamrolling whoever got in their way. But, as we head into the final week of the regular season, the wheels have fallen off a bit for the Eagles.

The team has lost four out of their last five games, with their most recent defeat coming at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals. Their only victory in that span came over the New York Giants and even that performance was far from perfect.

Heading into a rematch against the Giants in Week 18, the Eagles are running out of time to turn things around for a postseason push. There are talks of dissension in the locker room with the leadership of some players, such as wide receiver A.J. Brown, being questioned.

Another wild thing that has been discussed is the job security of head coach Nick Sirianni. He has won 11+ games in two straight seasons and is coming off an NFC Championship season. But, with how the Eagles have looked in the last few weeks, people are wondering if he will be fired.

That discussion was taken to another level by radio host Craig Carton. On his show this morning, Carton discussed the possibility of the Eagles moving on from Sirianni, throwing fuel on the fire by saying Bill Belichick, the current head coach of the New England Patriots, should be who they target to replace him.

“Nick Sirianni is not safe. If I’m Philly and it doesn’t go right, I’ll be the first team to try to beat the Chargers to the phone and bring Bill Belichick in and they would love him in Philadelphia,” Carton said.

That is certainly a wildly hot take from Carton. Belichick’s future in New England hasn’t even been decided and he is already being mocked to the Eagles as a replacement for Sirianni as head coach.

The noise around Sirianni’s future will quiet down if Philadelphia can defeat the Giants handily and make a run in the postseason. But, if they lost to New York or are eliminated early, whether it be in the Wild Card or Divisional Round, rumors such as the one Carton is pushing will reach a fever pitch.
