This offseason, just like last year, there has been a lot of focus on the quarterback position. It is understandable, as the quarterback is the most important position on the football team and numerous big names could be on the move in the coming weeks and months. Thankfully, the Buffalo Bills are set at the quarterback position with Josh Allen.

But, there are plenty of skill position players that could be changing addresses, too. This free-agent class is loaded at wide receiver and has some very good tight ends mixed in as well. While running back has become devalued in recent seasons, some headlining garnering names could be made available.

One of them is Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers. McCaffrey had an other-worldly 2019 season in which he rushed for 1,387 yards with 15 touchdowns and caught 116 passes for 1,005 yards and another four scores.

The Panthers rewarded him with a four-year extension worth more than $64 million, making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL. Since signing that extension, McCaffrey has played in only 10 games the following two seasons.

While still productive when on the field, he hasn’t come close to living up to the extension that he signed. As a result, it has been reported that the Panthers are willing to listen to trade offers for McCaffrey this offseason.

It is tough to peg which teams could be in the market for an upgrade at the running back spot, as that is more of a luxury than a necessity in the current landscape of the NFL. But, one team that could factor into the mix that ClutchPoints thinks will acquire him is the Buffalo Bills.

Buffalo was able to get their running game on track more as the season wore on, relying on Devin Singletary to be their lead back. However, adding the dynamic McCaffrey to the mix is something that would push them toward being the No. 1 offense in the NFL.

Singletary is a more than capable starter, so he could spell McCaffrey to keep him fresh and healthy throughout the season. McCaffrey would handle a bulk of the touches, but Buffalo would be comfortable knowing that Singletary can get the job done as a dual-threat option as well out of the backfield.

Adding McCaffrey to the mix along with Singletary, Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis and Dawson Knox would give Josh Allen an embarrassment of riches to work with. Buffalo has also been connected to wide receiver Christian Kirk this offseason, who would help take the passing game to another level as an upgrade on free agent Emmanuel Sanders and potential cap casualty Cole Beasley.

McCaffrey’s addition would help keep the Bills have well-balanced offense and someone that can help ice games in the fourth quarter.
