A new era is about to dawn on the Cleveland Browns. With his 11-game suspension now up, quarterback Deshaun Watson is set to make his debut with the Browns after they acquired him from the Houston Texans in a blockbuster trade this offseason. Coincidentally, Watson will be making his first start since 2020 against his old team as the Browns are heading on the road to face the Texans in Week 13.
Watson will have his work cut out for him to try and get the Browns back into the playoff picture. Jacoby Brissett did a solid job of holding down the fort in his absence as Cleveland has been an above-average offense this season, ranking 11th in points scored and fifth in yardage.
Brissett’s job was made much easier as the starter knowing that he had Nick Chubb behind him in the backfield. Chubb has showcased time and time again during 2022 why he is one of the best running backs in the NFL.
Chubb is on pace for a career-high in rushing yards this season, an impressive feat given some of the defensive fronts that he has faced with Brissett under center. Despite that, he has steamrolled virtually every opponent this season, rushing for 1,039 yards and 12 touchdowns, which ties his career high, in 11 games.
His most recent touchdown was a huge one for the Browns. Chubb scored the game-winner this past weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in overtime, giving Cleveland a 23-17 victory. It was a significant touchdown for the Browns as well, as that is the first touchdown that the franchise has scored in overtime since 1991 when David Brandon scored to defeat the San Diego Chargers.
That is another feather in the cap for Chubb, who should find it to be much easier running the ball with the more dynamic Watson replacing Brissett in the lineup. This was a nice way for Brissett to go out, as the Browns won their fourth game of the season, keeping their slim playoff hopes alive.
