Browns Add Dynamic Weapon In New NFL Mock Draft

Browns, NFL Draft

The Cleveland Browns came into the 2021 NFL season with some high expectations. Some people thought they could not only challenge for the AFC North title but become Super Bowl contenders as well. Now, their attention is shifting to the offseason with NFL free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft.

Well, they fell well short of those expectations. One major reason was the team’s performance offensively. Quarterback Baker Mayfield battled a shoulder injury for a large portion of the season and it derailed any potential success the team would have.

This offseason, the Browns are likely to make upgrading the skill position a priority. The trade for Odell Beckham Jr. did not pan out as they had hoped, so they need to find some playmakers at the wide receiver position.

Jarvis Landry is a solid possession receiver, but there isn’t much else for Mayfield to rely on consistently. That is why in a recent mock draft at Pro Football Focus, the Browns add a dynamic weapon to their receiving core.

With the 13th overall pick in this 2022 NFL mock draft, the Browns are selecting Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Wilson had a monster 2021, catching 70 passes for 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. His performance was highly rated with a grade of 84.1 on the season. Wilson improved every season with the Buckeyes, combining to make a dynamic duo with Chris Olave, who is also projected to be a first-round pick this year.

Given how deep the talent pool is for defensive players, the Browns take advantage with Wilson falling to them. There is only one other wide receiver selected before him, so he could be in the mix for being the first pass-catcher off the board.

The Browns are certainly hoping that occurs, as they need to add some weapons for Mayfield, or whoever is under center, to throw to. They have a dominant run game but need to upgrade the passing game for the offense to get to that next level.
