The Cleveland Browns are looking to put the 2022 season behind them and focus all of their attention on what lies ahead. Things were rocky for the franchise last year as they made the controversial decision to acquire Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans despite a suspension looming.

He ended up missing the first 11 games of the season, which meant he went nearly two calendar years between appearances on an NFL field. Watson played like someone who had been away for a long time as he looked rusty and the Browns struggled to get into any kind of rhythm.

But, as the team prepares for the 2023 season, there is a different feeling. In the opinion of Browns’ general manager Andrew Berry, Watson looks to be in a much better place. Berry recently praised his franchise quarterback as he prepares for training camp.

“I think this is going to be a big year for him, professionally and personally,” Berry said. “We think he’s in great shape physically. He’s been really good on the field. And I love what he’s done off the field. So very excited about him.”

While suspended last season, Watson was not allowed to practice or participate in team activities. So, when he stepped into the lineup in the Browns’ 12th game of the season, it was without very many reps with his new teammates.

The chemistry and cohesion that a team needs to find success on the field just wasn’t there. But, that should all change this season now that Watson is back and a full participant in practice. He recently discussed how different things are for him this year compared to last year.

“Feel really well, feel really good, comfortable being around the guys, the locker room, the coaching staff, the organization and just the city of Cleveland,” he said. “So having an opportunity to go into the season with a full offseason, locked in, focused, it definitely feels good, and I want to continue to keep channeling and cherishing all that energy and positive energy that’s been spread around this organization.”

The Browns are certainly hoping that Watson can get back on track and will do anything in their power to help ensure that he does. His performance offensively is key to them finding success during the 2023 season as Watson possesses the skills to help elevate this unit to a different level.
