The Cleveland Browns head into the 2020 NFL season with plenty of talent on offense–including an intriguing tight end duo consisting of newly signed Austin Hooper and David Njoku.
Following the Browns’ signing of Hooper, there were reports that surfaced regarding Njoku’s desire to be traded to a new team. He remains in Cleveland and will continue to do so heading into the upcoming season unless something drastic were to occur.
During a conversation with Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Njoku expressed his desire to stay with the Browns long-term, emphasizing it’s important to embrace the present.
Last season, Njoku appeared in just four games before going down with a season-ending injury–finishing with just five catches, 41 yards, and one touchdown on the year. Former head coach Freddie Kitchens did not utilize him much in the Browns’ offense.
Njoku is now fully recovered and will look to get back much closer to the production he provided the team in 2018. During that particular year, he was targeted 88 times resulting in 56 receptions, 639 yards, and four touchdown grabs.
The offense the Browns will be using under new head coach Kevin Stefanski is notorious for involving two-tight end sets frequently. While David Njoku should experience a decline in targets due to the addition of Hooper, he should remain a key component, nevertheless.
It has been a bit of a rough start for David Njoku in the early portion of Browns’ training camp. There is still plenty of time for him to turn his performance around, but regardless, will remain as the No. 2 tight end.
