A recent comment from Cam Newton indicates that the Carolina Panthers might be going after Bill Belichick.
One of the most shocking things to come out of the NFL after Week 12 was the Carolina Panthers firing their head coach Frank Reich. Reich was hired by the Panthers in the offseason after having some success with the Indianapolis Colts in recent years.
However, the Panthers got off to a really poor start this season, and their offense led by Bryce Young has been struggling. Reich was brought in to help in the development of Young, but Young hasn’t lived up to early expectations and the Panthers decided to make a big change by firing Reich.
With a vacancy at head coach now, the Panthers will be looking to bring in someone to help turn the franchise around. Recently, former Panthers star quarterback commented on who he thinks the team will pursue.
Seeing Newton mention Bill Belichick is very interesting, as Newton has played for Belichick in New England, and had a lot of success in Carolina.
For the Panthers, the idea of adding Belichick is certainly an interesting one as one of the best coaches of all time. However, the real question surrounding Belichick will be whether or not he is available this offseason.
The New England Patriots have struggled this season and it appears like they are going to be heading into a full rebuild. For Robert Kraft, that might mean he is open to closing out the chapter with Belichick and moving on to a younger coach for what could be a lengthy rebuild.
If Belichick is truly available, he will have plenty of suitors this offseason more than likely. The Panthers don’t exactly scream like a great destination to go to right now with the high turnover rate on the sidelines in the last couple of seasons, and the fact that they don’t have their first-round pick this season. However, Cam Newton could be on to something when he suggests Belichick to Carolina.
