Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts recently broke Cam Newton’s record for most single-season rushing touchdowns by a signal-caller, and this week, Newton expressed his feelings on having his milestone broken.

“Jalen is definitely a product of a situation that is favorable to his strengths, similar to what I was, too,” Newton said on his 4th and 1 podcast. “When I see Jalen Hurts doing it, it doesn’t make me bitter. Records are documented to be broken.”

Hurts punched in his 14th rushing score of the season during his team’s win over the New York Giants on Christmas Day. The touchdown come on the Eagles’ famous “Tush Push” play, with which Newton did not take any issue.

As for Newton’s statistics? The former NFL star says he doesn’t particularly care.

“I don’t pay attention to that (expletive),” Newton said. “I don’t give a damn about the things that I’ve done. … When I see Jalen Hurts doing what he’s supposed to do, am I gonna say, ‘Well, he had a lot of help?’ Hell, no. Break all them (expletive).”

Newton, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft.

He set the single-season rushing touchdown record for quarterbacks during his rookie campaign, when he reached the end zone 13 times on the ground while rushing for 706 yards. He also averaged 5.6 yards per carry in the process.

Overall, Newton played 11 seasons in the NFL, with 10 of them coming with the Panthers across two separate stints with the club.

He spent his first nine years in Carolina, winning an MVP in 2015 and also leading the Panthers to a Super Bowl appearance that year. He finished with 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through the air that season while adding 636 yards and 10 scores as a rusher.

Newton joined the New England Patriots for one season in 2020 before returning to Carolina for his final NFL campaign in 2021.

Meanwhile, Hurts is now in his fourth NFL season. He finished second in MVP voting last year while also guiding Philadelphia to a Super Bowl appearance.

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are 11-4 and will take on the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday. They will then wrap up the regular season when they battle the Giants again on Jan. 7.
