Carson Wentz Could End Up Signing With Las Vegas Raiders

The last two seasons have not gone according to plan for quarterback Carson Wentz. He was traded to the Indianapolis Colts during the 2021 offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles as the franchise hoped he could be their longer-term answer at the position. Since Andrew Luck retired ahead of the 2021 campaign, the Colts have scrambled for answers.

Carson Wentz ended up not being the solution in Indianapolis. They traded him last offseason to the Washington Commanders, who had similar aspirations. Unfortunately, an injury derailed his 2022 campaign and he fell short with underwhelming performances when the team needed him most once again.

Now a free agent, Carson Wentz has to find a new team to join this offseason. Time is ticking, however, as training camp is only a few weeks away. Finding a starting job is likely out of the question unless an injury occurs between now and then, but there are a few teams that could use a veteran of his caliber on their roster.

One of those suggested teams is the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders made a bold decision to move on from Derek Carr this offseason and were able to land Jimmy Garoppolo in free agency. Alas, Garoppolo has some injury hurdles to overcome as there is a chance his contract will be voided if he cannot pass a physical.

In the case of that occurring, the Raiders would turn to either 37-year-old Brian Hoyer, second-year undrafted player Chase Garbers or rookie fourth-round pick Aidan O’Connell as their starter. None of those options likely instill much confidence, which is why Carson Wentz could be an option.

While Carson Wentz has flamed out in his last two spots, he has shown glimpses of being capable of producing successful results. He would be surrounded by a good amount of talent with running back Josh Jacobs and wide receivers Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers and Hunter Renfrow.

His biggest issue last season with the Commanders was turnovers. If he can cut down on those, Carson Wentz can still be a useful quarterback. Given the slim pickings that he has, landing with the Raiders and having an outside chance of becoming a starter again would be an excellent situation for him to land in.
