Bears Could Pursue Move For Wide Receiver With Star Potential

The Chicago Bears will be in need of some help at wide receiver this offseason, and Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey sees a potential fit for the club: Washington Commanders wide out Jahan Dotson.

Tansey notes that while the Bears have a No. 1 receiver in D.J. Moore, they will need to add some supporting pieces around him. This will become even more essentially with fellow receiver Darnell Mooney headed toward free agency.

Dotson will not be a free agent this offseason, but the Commanders could be open to trading the pass-catcher for the right return.

The 23-year-old is Washington’s No. 3 receiver behind Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel, so the club may view him as expendable. That’s especially considering that he has been a rather significant disappointment after being viewed as a breakout candidate heading into 2023.

Dotson, who played his collegiate football at Penn State, was selected by the Commanders with the 16th overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

A hamstring injury limited Dotson to 12 games during his rookie campaign, but when he was on the field, he posted solid production, catching 35 passes for 523 yards and seven touchdowns.

As a result of Dotson’s decent showing in an abbreviated debut season, many felt that the Newark, N.J. native would register a hearty stat-line this year, but that has been anything but the case.

Through the first 13 games of his sophomore campaign, Dotson has logged just 44 catches for 458 yards and four scores, averaging a rather meager 10.4 yards per grab.

Tansey hypothesizes that Chicago could send a Day 3 draft pick to Washington in exchange for Dotson, who may be in need of a change of scenery.

A duo of Moore and Dotson in the Bears’ receiving corps could be interesting.

Chicago is 5-8 this season and will take on the Cleveland Browns this weekend.
