Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has been the subject of incessant trade rumors for quite some time now, and you can tell that it is starting to get to the youngster.
Fields recently unfollowed the Bears on social media, and during an appearance on The St. Brown Bros podcast, he explained his reasoning.
“I still mess with the Bears,” Fields said. “I’m trying to take a little break. I unfollowed the Bears and the NFL, I’m not just trying to have football on my timeline.”
But what about the trade chatter?
Fields said he is “tired of hearing the talk” and that while he wants to remain in Chicago, he understands that it is out of his control.
“Whatever happens, happens,” he said. “I feel like the biggest thing going on with this right now is I just want it to be over. Just let me know if I’m getting traded, let me know if I’m staying.”
The 25-year-old will probably learn of his fate fairly soon, as the NFL Scouting Combine takes place next week and free agency kicks off in March.
Fields, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Bears with the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
This past season, Fields played in 13 games and threw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 86.3. In addition, he rushed for 657 yards and four scores.
While the Kennesaw, Ga. native has shown some flashes of brilliance, his career has largely been defined by inconsistency. So, with the Bears owning the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the general consensus is that Chicago will trade Justin Fields in order to take USC quarterback Caleb Williams.
