Chiefs Urged To Trade For Patriots’ WR Kendrick Bourne

The Kansas City Chiefs have done a very good job this season navigating yet another change to the supporting cast around quarterback Patrick Mahomes. With JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman departing in free agency, the team re-made their wide receiver depth chart.

Kansas City was hoping that young players Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney would be able to step into larger roles. To this point, that hasn’t been the case. Mahomes’ No. 1 target remains tight end Travis Kelce and rookie Rashee Rice has emerged as his most reliable wide receiver along with Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Chiefs were so unhappy with how things were progressing, that they re-acquired Hardman from the New York Jets in a trade last week. Alas, it doesn’t sound like they are done making adjustments to the position.

Potentially in the market for another wide receiver, Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network has suggested that they make a deal with the New England Patriots. As part of that swap, Kendrick Bourne would be heading to Kansas City.

Along with Bourne, the Chiefs would acquire defensive tackle Lawrence Guy. To complete the deal, the Patriots would acquire offensive lineman Lucas Niang and a 2024 sixth-round pick. For New England, this would open up snaps for their young pass catchers in Tyquan Thornton, Demario Douglas and Kayshon Boutte.

Despite some brutal outings by the Patriots’ offense this season, Bourne has been a productive player. He has 34 receptions for 370 yards and three touchdowns on the season as the No. 1 receiver for Mac Jones. That would put him second in all receiving categories behind only Kelce on the Chiefs.

A boost of that caliber would be the finishing touches for a Kansas City offense that remains explosive. Adding Guy as part of the deal would shore things up in the trenches defensively where Chris Jones remains a dominating force but has received little help.
