Bengals Named ‘Perfect’ Trade Fit For Giants’ Darren Waller

Could the New York Giants move tight end Darren Waller seven months after initially trading for him? A team like the Cincinnati Bengals could make sense as a potential trade suitor.

The Giants are just 1-5 and appear to be going nowhere fast, so if they are going to do anything between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, they will almost certainly be selling.

An NFL scout tells the NFL Analysis Network that if New York attempts to send Waller elsewhere, the Cincinnati Bengals should jump at the opportunity to add him.

“Cincinnati needs a tight end. I think Darren Waller would be a perfect target for the Bengals at the trade deadline,” said the scout. “New York may not want to move him, but if they do, the Bengals should pounce.”

For the right price, the Giants may very well move Waller.

Waller is under contract through 2026 and is making a rather sizeable amount of money, so New York could ultimately decide to trade him away for draft assets while also freeing up some cash in the process.

It’s important to note that the Giants traded a third-round draft pick in order to acquire Waller back in the spring, so they would surely want to receive more than that in return if they elect to move him now.

Waller has logged 28 catches for 282 yards through the first six games of this season and has been one of Big Blue’s only consistent players thus far.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Georgia Tech, was originally selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Multiple suspensions derailed his time with the Ravens early on, and in 2018, he ultimately made his way to the Oakland Raiders (now Las Vegas), and that was where he broke out.

He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns in 2019 and 2020, making the Pro Bowl in the latter season.
