Colts Seem To Have Zeroed In On QB They Want In NFL Draft

One way or another, the Indianapolis Colts are going to do everything they can to come away with a new franchise quarterback from the 2023 NFL Draft. They have cycled through veterans each of the past four seasons since Andrew Luck retired, but want to find some continuity at the position. The easiest way to achieve that is to select one in the draft.

In most years, Indianapolis being slated to pick fourth would put them in a great position. But, with the Chicago Bears moving out of the No. 1 spot and the Arizona Cardinals looking to do the same at No. 3, the Colts could be in trouble if the first three picks are quarterbacks.

That is a worst-case scenario for the franchise, which is hoping something changes atop the draft and there isn’t a run on quarterbacks. Which player are they setting their sights on? According to ESPN’s Todd McShay, it is Will Levis out of Kentucky that the Colts are zeroed in on.

“The Will Levis-Colts buzz is very real, folks. Indianapolis seems to be extremely intrigued by the Kentucky quarterback. In fact, if Levis is off the board, I’m not sure what the Colts do from there. The only information I’ve heard on them this week is they’re interested in Levis. Things could change, but that’s the latest buzz around the league, and Matt Miller was hearing similar stuff at the end of last week.

The next question is whether Indy would move up for him or stay put. Tennessee has been connected to him, too, so the Colts might opt to trade up to block their division mate and land their preferred passer.”

At this time of year, all information you hear needs to be taken with a grain of salt. There are a lot of smokescreens shared by teams hoping to have the prospect they truly want fall into their laps.

A few weeks ago, there were reports that Levis was plummeting down the board because of poor interviews. Teams were reportedly removing him from their board entirely, but that no longer seems to be the case.

If the Colts are dead set on selecting Levis, they should do what they can to put themselves in the best position to select him. Making a deal with the Cardinals for the No. 3 pick, if Levis is still on the board, makes a lot of sense.

Indianapolis ownership would never forgive themselves if they stayed pat at No. 4 and watched their division rivals, the Tennessee Titans, make a move ahead of them. If a team falls in love with a prospect, they should do everything in their power to put themselves in the best position to land that player in the draft.
