The Washington Commanders are under new leadership in 2024. With a new ownership group in place, a new front office and coaching staff were installed following the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.

Adam Peters was tabbed as the general manager with Dan Quinn coming over as the head coach. They will be tasked with turning around a franchise that hasn’t had a winning season since 2016, when they went 8-7-1.

Their last playoff win was during the 2005 season, as this franchise hasn’t found success in a long time. Alas, the new regime has a chance to lay the foundation for a brighter future beginning this offseason.

NFL News & Rumors: Marvin Harrison Jr., Justin Fields, Caleb Williams, 2024 NFL Draft, Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders Updates

Washington is overflowing with cap space, as they are projected to have the most in the NFL. That puts them in a position to be buyers during free agency as they can bid on essentially any player they want.

On top of that, they have a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Commanders will be on the clock second, putting them in a position to snag one of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class to build around.

However, the team could opt to go in a different direction during the draft. As shared by NFL Notifications on X, an intriguing situation is developing with the Commanders. Should they not be able to bump the Chicago Bears off of Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick, they will select Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and try to trade for Justin Fields of the Bears.

That would certainly be an aggressive start to the new regime, but one that makes some sense. The quarterback position has been an issue for the franchise for years; if they believe it is Williams or bust in this draft, acquiring Fields still represents a nice upgrade.

Adding Harrison to a group already consisting of Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson would give the Commanders one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL. Fields would be surrounded by plenty of weapons to continue the development he showed in 2023 with the Bears and provide the team with a solid foundation to build upon.
