Could Colts Consider Trading RB Zack Moss Before Deadline?

With Jonathan Taylor sidelined for the first four weeks of the regular season, the Indianapolis Colts’ rushing attack looked like it was going to be an issue. However, fellow running back Zack Moss stepped up in a big way and has totaled 466 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry in five games (he missed Week 1 due while recovering from a broken arm).

Moss has put together a pair of monster performances, racking up 122 yards in Week 2 and then rattling off another 165 yards in Week 5 (which also happened to be the week that Taylor returned).

Now that Taylor is back on the field and has a new contract with the Colts, there is some speculation that Indianapolis could attempt to move Moss ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.

Shervon Fakhimi of ClutchPoints explored the possibility, stating that Indy no longer really needs Moss with Taylor back in the fold.

The thing is, Taylor has not looked great since returning from the PUP list, as he has carried the ball 14 times for just 37 yards in two games.

Now, to be fair to Taylor, he hadn’t seen live game action since the second half of last season and is still working his way back from offseason ankle surgery.

However, moving Moss right now would be a risky proposition. What if Taylor doesn’t rediscover his groove this season? Or what if the ankle continues to give him problems?

The Colts are contending for an AFC South division crown, so it seems likely that they would rather buy than sell before the end of the month.

Plus, most teams employ multiple halfbacks in today’s game, so there is no reason why Indianapolis can’t merely use both Taylor and Moss in tandem.

It remains to be seen, but it seems pretty doubtful that Indy will trade Zack Moss unless things go really haywire over these next couple of games.
