Leads The NFL in Rushing Yards Per Game
The 2019 season was the first year of Ezekiel Elliott’s NFL career where he didn’t lead the league in rushing yards per game. He trailed Derrick Henry (102.7), Nick Chubb (93.4), and Christian McCaffrey (86.7) in this category last season.
Something to take into consideration, a critical element in Elliott leading the NFL in rushing yard per game in his earlier seasons was the Cowboys providing him with the most rush attempts per game. He still received 18.8 carries per game in 2019 and that’s enough to contend for the rushing title.
The Cowboys relied on Elliott to run the ball in unimaginative ways under Jason Garrett last season. Of course, Kellen Moore was calling plays as the offensive coordinator, but now under Mike McCarthy and having a year of experience, it’s difficult to envision improvement not occurring.
It’s not out of the question for Elliott to simply experience greater results per carry and lead the NFL in rushing yards per game in 2020. He is involved enough in the Cowboys’ offense to get it done and with an even better equipped passing attack, the conditions should be easier for him.
