Elliott Has His Best Season
From a statistical standpoint, one could argue that Ezekiel Elliott’s rookie season was the best year of his NFL career. He managed to total 1,994 total yards from scrimmage and while that trailed his single-season best (2,001), he recorded a career-high 16 combined touchdowns.
Much emphasis will be placed on the Dallas Cowboys’ passing attack in 2020, especially after the addition of CeeDee Lamb. As a result, it should help Elliott produce greater results when he’s running routes out of the backfield.
Elliott managed to average an impressive yards per reception count during his initial two seasons in the NFL. For reference, he averaged 11.3 yards per reception in 2016 and 10.3 in 2017, both of which were on lesser volume of targets. He has averaged 7.5 yards per reception since 2018.
It’s difficult to envision Kellen Moore not taking greater advantage of Elliott being a receiver out of the backfield in the passing game. Managing to produce greater yards per reception totals would certainly help Elliott rack up more total yards from scrimmage, perhaps the most in his career.
