The Dallas Cowboys are a dangerous team because of how strong their defense is. They have stars at each level of the defense, which has led to some dominant performances by the unit. But, the offense was susceptible to some lapses in production at points in the season. In the last few weeks, that has no longer been an issue.
Dallas’ rhythm on offense was thrown off when Dak Prescott was injured in Week 1 as he injured his thumb against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cooper Rush was adequate as his replacement for five games, but he didn’t provide the same explosiveness that Prescott brings to the table.
In addition to the passing game finding its footing, the running game has been excellent this season. Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott are one of the best duos in the NFL, with Pollard providing the lightning to Elliott’s thunder.
All of this has been made possible because of how strong Dallas is in the trenches. For years the Cowboys owned one of the best offensive lines in the NFL but they have begun showing some cracks in the armor because of injuries, ineffective play or players departing. That is no longer an issue as they have gotten things figured out and the unit will be getting stronger soon.
That is because long-time left tackle Tyron Smith has been designated to return from IR and can now begin practicing with the team. Ari Meirov shared the update on Twitter.
This is great news for the Cowboys as teams can never have enough depth on the offensive line. Smith has been one of the best left tackles in the league throughout his career, providing Dallas with an elite option to insert into the lineup.
Rookie first-round pick Tyler Smith has been excellent at left tackle, filling in for Smith, who has yet to appear in a game this season as he is recovering from an avulsion fracture in his left knee. The plan, once Tyr. Smith can get back on the field, is to move Tyl. Smith inside to left guard.
Connor McGovern has received the most snaps at the left guard position this season but will shift to a reserve role when the time comes. A group of Tyr. Smith, Tyl. Smith, Tyler Biadasz, Zack Martin and Terence Steele is a formidable unit for any defense to get past.
