The Dallas Cowboys could end up moving on from Dak Prescott after next season, and if they do, could Justin Fields be in their future?

Christopher Kline of FanSided listed off some potential replacements for Prescott in the event that he walks next spring, and among them was Fields.

Kline notes that the Cowboys appear to have an interest in dual-threat quarterbacks based off of the fact that they traded for Trey Lance shortly before last season. Fields obviously fits that mold.

Dallas has reached a stalemate in contract negotiations with Prescott, who is entering the final year of his deal. The Cowboys seem willing to allow Prescott to play out 2024 and then potentially revisit talks next offseason when Prescott hits free agency.

Prescott is said to be seeking a contract worth in the neighborhood of $60 million annually, so one can understand Dallas’ trepidation in locking him up at the moment.

Fields spent the first three years of his career with the Chicago Bears and was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers last month.

Currently, Fields is slated to be the backup for the Steelers, as they also signed Russell Wilson before they swung a trade for Fields.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that Pittsburgh views Fields as its quarterback of the future.

The Steelers only signed Wilson to a one-year deal, so they could roll with him for one season and then turn to Fields for 2025.

It should also be noted that Fields is due for a new contract, as well, so that could certainly affect how the Steelers proceed moving forward.

It may affect the Cowboys’ interest in Justin Fields, as well.
