New York Giants Trade For Tee Higgins In Bold Proposal

Tee Higgins, New York Giants

The New York Giants are in desperate need of a No. 1 wide receiver, and Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins could be available.

If the Bengals do indeed place Higgins on the trade block, you can bet the Giants will be calling.

Mike Fanelli of Rotoballer suggests that New York sends wide out Darius Slayton, a second-round draft pick and a 2025 second-rounder to Cincinnati in exchange for Higgins. This would give the Giants the top pass-catcher they so badly need while also supplying Cincy with a decent auxiliary receiver in Slayton and some good draft capital.

Higgins asked for a trade last month after the Bengals slapped a franchise tag on him ahead of free agency. Cincinnati has until the middle of July to strike a long-term deal with Higgins, but if the two sides are not able to reach an extension by then, the Bengals will have to revisit this situation again next offseason.

Or, Cincinnati can just trade Higgins.

The Bengals will have a very difficult time affording to keep Higgins long term. They are already paying quarterback Joe Burrow $55 million annually, and fellow receiver Ja’Marr Chase became eligible for an extension this offseason, as well (and Cincy will probably prioritize Chase over Higgins).

Of course, the Bengals don’t have to trade Higgins.

Cincinnati is attempting to win a Super Bowl, and its best chance of winning a championship next season will be with Higgins on the roster. But, if Higgins threatens to sit out for 2024 (unlikely, but possible), the Bengals may be left with no choice but to move on from him.

The Giants have been in need of help in their receiving corps for quite some time. While they have some decent young pieces like Jalin Wyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson, neither player has proven much of anything yet. New York has not yet had a legitimate No. 1 since Odell Beckham Jr.

Should Tee Higgins hit the trade market, it would behoove New York to make a serious push for him.
