The Dallas Cowboys could use some help at safety, and thanks to the Buffalo Bills, a former All-Pro just became available at the position.

Jordan Poyer.

The Bills recently released Poyer as a cap-cutting measure, leaving him open to sign with whoever he wants.

Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports names the Cowboys as a fit for Poyer, who should absolutely generate considerable interest from contending teams.

Poyer is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and registered 100 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and four passes defended.

The soon-to-be-33-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Oregon State, was originally selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He made it just three games into his rookie campaign with the Eagles before being waived. He then signed with the Cleveland Browns, where he proceeded to remain through 2016.

Poyer’s role with the Browns was rather limited, as he was in and out of the starting lineup and never really got to display his potential.

He linked up with Buffalo in 2017, and he ended up breaking out that ensuing season, recording 95 tackles, a couple of sacks, five interceptions, a fumble recovery, 13 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Poyer didn’t really continued to impress over the next several years but didn’t get recognition until 2021, when he was named a First-Team All-Pro after racking up 93 tackles, three sacks, five picks and nine passes defended. He then earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022 courtesy of totaling 63 tackles, four interceptions, a forced fumble and eight passes defended.

The aging Poyer may no longer be the same player he was a couple of years ago, but he is still a solid contributor and would absolutely help the Cowboys’ secondary.
