Cowboys Urged To Pursue Trade For Intriguing Vikings’ Defender

Two weeks into the season, many had the Dallas Cowboys pegged as Super Bowl favorites. After all, they had outscored their first two opponents by a combined score of 70-10 in their 2-0 start, and their defense was ranked No. 1 in the NFL.

Things have certainly changed since then.

The Cowboys have gone just 1-2 over their last three games, most recently suffering a blowout loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night in what owner Jerry Jones had been calling a barometer game for the team.

Well, if the 49ers loss showed anything, it demonstrated that Dallas needs to add some pieces on both sides of the ball.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine sees a potential defensive solution: Minnesota Vikings linebacker Jordan Hicks.

Even before the Cowboys’ recent struggles, the linebacker position had been an issue for the club. Hicks could certainly help remedy those problems.

Through the first five games of 2023, Hicks has logged 43 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He will also be a free agent at season’s end, so Dallas would have no obligation to the 31-year-old beyond this year if things don’t work out.

The Vikings are just 1-4, and with a rebuild seeming all but inevitable, moving Hicks ahead of the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline is a realistic possibility for the club.

Hicks had racked up over 100 tackles in four straight campaigns going into this year, most recently totaling 129 tackles, three sacks, an interception, a forced fumble and 10 passes defended during his first season with the Vikings in 2022.

Prior to joining Minnesota, Hicks had spent the first six years of his career between the Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals.

The Cowboys will attempt to get back on track when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers next Monday.
