The Denver Broncos are just 2-5 heading into their Week 8 matchup with the Green Bay Packers, and apparently, everyone on their roster can be had in a trade. That includes star cornerback Patrick Surtain II, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
While the Broncos were largely expected to be sellers heading into the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, Surtain’s apparent availability is rather stunning.
Surtain is just 23 years old and is under team control through 2025, so Denver does not have to be in any rush to move him.
Of course, just because the Broncos are saying that he can be had does not necessarily mean Denver is actively shopping him.
It could be the type of situation where the Broncos would move Surtain if they receive a monster package return. For example, perhaps if another team is willing to surrender a couple of first-round draft picks for the University of Alabama product, Denver would be open to pulling the trigger.
Otherwise, it’s hard to imagine a world in which the Broncos trade Surtain, who has already stamped his name among the league’s best cornerbacks three years into his NFL career.
Surtain, whose father enjoyed a successful NFL tenure with the Miami Dolphins, was selected by Denver with the ninth overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
He enjoyed a very impressive rookie campaign, registering 58 tackles, four interceptions, 14 passes defended and a defensive touchdown.
Then, last year, Surtain broke out, finishing with 60 tackles, a couple of picks, a forced fumble and 10 passes defended on his way to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.
Through the first seven games of 2023, the Plantation, Fl. native has recorded 27 tackles, an interception and seven passes defended.
It would be very shocking if the Broncos did ultimately decide to trade Patrick Surtain II.
