The Denver Broncos appeared to have reignited their Super Bowl aspirations with the acquisition of future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson two years ago.

However, the venture did not yield the desired results, leading to Wilson’s recent release and a return to a familiar crossroads reminiscent of Peyton Manning’s retirement following Super Bowl 50.

Now, holding the No. 12 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Broncos are reportedly eyeing quarterback Bo Nix from the University of Oregon, according to Jaime Eisner.

Nix stands among a crop of promising quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class. While not classified in the top echelon alongside names like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye, Nix exhibits considerable potential.

In the previous season, Nix showcased his prowess by amassing 4,508 passing yards and 45 touchdowns, accompanied by a mere three interceptions, boasting an impressive 77.4 percent completion rate. Notably, his completion percentage in 2023 surpassed Mac Jones’ record for the NCAA’s highest-ever completion rate.

A standout performance in the Fiesta Bowl against Liberty University saw Nix deliver 363 passing yards and five touchdowns on 28 completions out of 35 attempts.

However, even if the Broncos opt for Nix in the draft and he lives up to expectations, the path to contention remains arduous. The team faces deficiencies in playmaking options at wide receiver and running back, compounded by defensive weaknesses that plagued their performance, ranking among the NFL’s bottom dwellers across various metrics in 2023.

In hindsight, it appears the Denver Broncos may need to embrace a protracted rebuilding endeavor, a course of action that might have been more prudent two years ago instead of the ill-fated trade that saw the departure of three rotation players and five draft picks in exchange for the aging Wilson.
