The Denver Broncos are in serious need of a wide receiver, and Lou Scataglia of Predominantly Orange feels that Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins could be the answer.
Scataglia suggests that the Broncos send fellow wide out Courtland Sutton and a third-round draft pick to the Bengals in exchange for Higgins.
Why would Cincinnati do this?
Remember: Higgins requested a trade from the Bengals last month after the team slapped a franchise tag on him. That decision clearly did not sit well with Higgins, who is entering the final year of his deal.
Cincinnati has until the middle of July to reach a long-term agreement with Higgins, and if the two sides can’t find common ground by then, the hope is that he will then sign his franchise tender and play out the 2024 campaign on the tag.
Higgins would then probably walk next offseason.
So, instead of risking Higgins sitting out all of 2024 (he probably wouldn’t, but you never know) or having a disgruntled player on the roster, Cincy could trade Higgins for another very capable receiver in Sutton who could play alongside of Ja’Marr Chase. That way, the Bengals could still somewhat maintain their Super Bowl hopes.
Of course, going from Higgins to Sutton is an obvious downgrade for Cincinnati. Part of what makes the Bengals legitimate contenders is the fact that they boast one of the NFL’s best receiving duos in Chase and Higgins.
But, the chances of Cincy signing Higgins to a lucrative multi-year deal seem slim. The team is already paying Joe Burrow $55 million annually, and it has to extend Chase, as well.
Should the Broncos manage to acquire Tee Higgins, it would provide them with the No. 1 receiver that they desperately need and make life easier for whoever is playing quarterback for the club next season.
