The Detroit Lions could use some wide receiver depth behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon has posed an interesting candidate.

Former Cincinnati Bengals wide out Tyler Boyd.

Boyd is one of the top free agents remaining, and he showed last year that he still has quite a bit left in the tank after catching 67 passes for 667 yards and a couple of touchdowns as the Bengals’ No. 3 receiver.

The Lions lost Josh Reynolds to free agency, leaving them without a true No. 2 option behind St. Brown.

Detroit does have Jameson Williams, who the club drafted in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. However, injuries and a gambling suspension have severely limited his playing time, and while the Lions are hoping he may finally break through in 2024, he is unproven.

That opens the door for a potential union with Boyd.

Boyd, who played his collegiate football at the University of Pittsburgh, was selected by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

After a couple of rather uneventful seasons to begin his career, Boyd broke out in 2018, snaring 76 balls for 1,028 yards and seven scores. He then followed that up by hauling in 90 receptions for 1,046 yards while reaching the end zone five times.

Boyd has not posted 1,000 yards in a single season since, but he has registered over 800 yards twice, most recently doing so in 2021 when he totaled 828 yards.

It’s important to note that Boyd has been the Bengals’ No. 3 receiver for each of the last three seasons, so it’s entirely possible his production could increase elsewhere.

He is still just 29 years old, after all, so it’s not like Boyd is that old.

We’ll see if the Lions try to make a move for Boyd as the offseason progresses.
