Alabama’s Crimson Tide football program received a boost to kick off the week, securing another valuable addition from the transfer portal.

Kameron Howard, formerly of the Charlotte 49ers, made his intentions clear on Monday morning via social media, declaring his move to Alabama.

Howard, originally unranked from Saint Frances Academy in Fort Washington, Md., emerged as a standout prospect in the Class of 2023. Despite his initial unheralded status, he showcased his prowess on the field during his freshman year at Charlotte, appearing in all 12 games with two starts.

Impressively, he racked up 38 tackles, including two interceptions and a pass breakup, during the previous season.

Alabama’s defensive backfield presents an intriguing mix heading into the upcoming season. While Malachi Moore returns for his super senior year, the remainder of the unit comprises relatively inexperienced players or recent transfers.

During the winter transfer window, the Crimson Tide secured the talents of cornerback Domani Jackson from USC and safety Keon Sabb from Michigan, both poised to make significant contributions this fall.

The remaining safeties on the Crimson Tide roster boast impressive recruiting pedigrees but have yet to establish themselves on the field.

Former head coach Nick Saban praised DeVonta Smith’s preseason performance last year, although an injury hindered his playing time. Tony Mitchell, a former 5-star recruit, primarily served as a backup during his freshman campaign, while Red Morgan, an incoming freshman, impressed during spring practices.

Howard marks the Alabama Crimson Tide’s second transfer acquisition of the spring, following kicker Graham Nicholson’s decision to join the program last week.
