Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams suffered a hip injury during his team’s win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday and missed the entire second half as a result.

Williams is not expected to miss much (if any) time, and sports medicine physician Jesse Morse provided some more detail surrounding Williams’ injury on Sunday night.

Morse said that Williams sustained a hip flexor and that it was like a compensation injury secondary to the torn ACL that the halfback suffered last season.

He adds that there is a “realistic chance” that Williams plays in Week 5 and that if he does miss time, it will only be two weeks at most.

Williams carried the ball twice without any yardage while logging three catches for nine yards before exiting the Broncos’ Week 4 victory.

On the season overall, the 23-year-old has totaled 138 rushing yards, averaging 3.6 yards per carry. In addition, he has caught 11 passes for 51 yards.

Williams, who played his collegiate football at the University of North Carolina, was selected by Denver in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a solid rookie campaign, playing in all 17 games and registering 903 yards and four touchdowns on the ground while recording 4.4 yards per attempt. He also hauled in 43 receptions for 316 yards and three scores.

Then, last season, Javonte Williams played in just four contests before going down with the aforementioned torn ACL. In the time he did play, the Wallace, N.C. native posted 204 yards on the ground and added 16 grabs for 76 yards as a receiver.

The Broncos picked up their first win of the season by beating the Bears this past weekend and will aim to start a winning streak when they head home to battle the New York Jets next Sunday.
